A facinating read. I am not a big fan of NASCAR, I watch a race from time to time, but this glance into its roots.....

From the sand to asphalt

PONCE INLET, Fla. -- From where he stands, 72-year-old Webber Johnson can't smell the burning rubber. He can't hear the roaring engines. And he doesn't see any fans. There are no barbecues to smell, beers to drink or danger to worry about.

It is completely serene. The only sound is that of the Atlantic Ocean, its waves crashing together before crawling their way to the tip of his feet. Between tides, Johnson takes a deep breath, grabs his wife Marge's hands and remembers.

The Soft drink tax fizzles instate House committee | Norman Transcript
Well it is glad to see that someone paid attention to the will of the people (or at least this person).
Yahoo! News - Comedians on the Political Campaign:
"'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (news)':
'Throughout his life, General Wesley Clark has stood up to some tough opponents. He battled the Viet Cong, and went toe-to-toe with Slobodan Milosevic (news - web sites). But today the retired four-star general capitulated to the fiercest enemy he's ever confronted: the American voter.' "

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Oscar head angry at TV show delay
Hey brainy, have you not figured that it is the people who make your show a success and if they are offend they will stop watching you. In is your best interested to have the tape delay in place. People vote with their feet, like me. I stop watching your political statement fest long ago and I also have not been to anything but family type films with my daughter and son for the past couple of years.
On top of that, the ABC affiliates need to have assurances that they are not going to be hit with a fine because you want the right to sling the F word (or worse) around whenever you want to. If that is censorship, make a deal to put it on some cable channel that is not watched (like maybe Showtime)!

Massachusetts Weighs a Deal on Marriages Between Gays
Hey Massachusetts, what is next? Can I marry my cousin now. The state does have an inherent right in defining marriage and you people need to do it. Look, we cannot marry more than one person, we cannot marry a blood relative, if you take and make Gay marriage legal, what is to take any of those down a path that you do not wish. Time to wake up and smell the coffee people. (In disclosure, though I live in Oklahoma now, I am from Massachusetts and live 26 years of my life there. I have a right like any one else does to say my thoughts and any liberal that does not agree can tear up the constitution. I am not a homphobe or anything else you want to call me, OK?

Tax on pop sales draws support | KOTV - The News On Six
Here is a new idea folks, instead of finding new ways to tax me, why don't you reduce spending. I am sorry. You see, the democrats want to give the hungry man a fish, the republicans want to give the man a fishing boat, and the both want me to pay for it. Go ballance the budget guys!
